Double Denim?

Thursday, 12 February 2015

Soooo.. I don't know about you but the term "double denim" as been drummed into my mind as a definite "NO" when it comes to fashion, along with other phrases such as "red and green should never be seen."

Yet its inevitable that eventually the trend will go round the circle of fashion and eventually become cool, purely because it wasn't cool in the first place… chokers, culottes..birkenstocks..anyone with me? It just so happens that this is exactly was has happened, and double denim is a huge trend in SS15 if you like it or not.

Even after Fendi and Gucci swaying my judgement upon double denim on a whole, there's still something inside me that is still incredibly wary about it all.. I think my fear grew from not wanting to replicate a cowboy or ending up looking like Britney and Justin in 2001

I think the trick to it all is picking your denim wisely, especially if your ready to add a creative flare to your wardrobe this season. So after searching for some inspo this is what i've found!

One thing I would definitely recommend with double denim is to wear a shoe with a heel, i'm not talking a major stiletto unless thats your thing then go for it, even if its just a slight lift or a minimal heeled sandal, the leg is going to be elongated and a feminine edge will be added, meaning the canadian tuxedo look is going to be avoided at all costs.

So, will you be rocking double denim next season?

The First Date 101

Wednesday, 11 February 2015

With Valentines day around the corner, love is definitely in the air so I thought there was no better time to share my do's and don'ts, well mainly don'ts, for the all important first date.

THE LUNCH / DINNER DATE

So, a date that includes food.. need I say anymore?

The big question is, what do you order?

Now all that I can say is be yourself, don't go and order a salad..with a side of salad..with some more, you guessed it, salad. Trying to impress a guy by giving off the impression that your a Tumblr "fitspo" girl, because whats going to happen if the relationship develops? You don't want to hide your secret stash of Dairy Milk, which I know you have, don't deny it.

Okay so here i'm speaking from personal experience, don't judge..
On my first date I ordered a meatball sandwich with EXTRA CHEESE?!!! I mean what was I trying to say?! "I'll try and impress you whist gaining 10 pounds"
It wasn't the best move, and it wasn't attractive to eat either, every time I think about it I cringe. Then again, were still here 3 years later so who knows.

Next up, what to wear?

The main thing I'd say on a first date is so not be too OTT. You can leave all the fancy dresses for later on in the relationship, you don't want to look crazy high maintenance or look nothing like you actually do in your day to day life. I'd say once again just be yourself, yourself with that extra bit off sparkle and sass, impressive whilst still remaining effortless.

Something I would recommend though is to wear a shoe with a slight heel, it will instantly give you confidence, improved posture and a feminine edge.

The Cinema Date

Now i've never really understood why people go to the cinema on a first date, sat there in silence not being able to talk and get to know each other? I just don't get it, especially this valentines day when 50 Shades Of Grey comes out, I would pretty much DIE if someone took me on a first date to a film all about sex. *CRINGE*

However it does seem to be quite popular, god only knows why, so heres my advice if you do get whisked away to Cineworld this valentines day……..

Everybody knows that at the cinema, a girl gotta have her snacks. On a first date all I can say is pick wisely.. Don't go and order the foot long hot dog, purely because it will just be awkward and the SMELL, ew.

You don't want to be boring though either and stick to a standard small popcorn, its too basic and also all the brown popcorn shells get stuck in your teeth, it will be your luck that the date will be going really well, you'll smile over leaning in for a smooch and you'll have a brown popcorn shell covering your front tooth making you look like some sort of crazy pirate. Just trust me on this one.

So basically what I'm trying to say stay safe and get a pic & mix.

When it comes to what to wear on a cinema date, I'd say comfort 100%. The last thing you want is to be uncomfortable and fidgeting around being annoying. Personally I think the perfect outfit would be a comfy swing or jumper dress with tights and some over the knee boots. This way your still feminine whilst still remaining comfy and cosy. I call it "comfy chic."

Coffee / Drinks Date

Going out for coffee or drinks is probably the safest option when it comes to first dates. There is a much more relaxed vibe as theres less pressure due to no eating being involved, nothing is going to get stuck in your teeth, don't worry.

The worst thing that can happen is that you order a cappuccino which extra froth and after taking a sip you end up with a huge white frothy moustache on your upper lip looking slightly like Einstein. Or if your taken out for drinks you get over tipsy and start talking about your ex.

When it comes to your outfit choice I'd say stay casually chic. You can stay uber simple and add extra feminine touches with your jewellery and makeup, add a pair of falsies and your good to go.

Other Tips & Tricks

I know whenever V-Day is mentioned I instantly think of red bold lips, however this is a definite NO. Whatever you do give the bold lip a miss, if your eating you'll constantly be paranoid incase you look like a clown with red smeared all over your face or whether its on your teeth. Basically theres about 100 things that can go wrong with a bold lip on a first date.

If you do want to glam up your makeup look then I'd recommend going heavier on the eyes, add some liner and some falsies and your date won't be able to keep they're eyes off you. I'd definitely say practise first though, I have seen many failed attempts at a dark sultry Kim K smokey eye, and believe me it a'int pretty.

So thats all for today! I hope you all have an amazing V-Day whatever your up to!

Shades Of Grey

Monday, 9 February 2015

No, not 50 shades, here I only have 9.
Yet with the hype of the film "50 Shades Of Grey" being released this friday, which no I will not be going to see, I thought it was an appropriate time to share my love for grey with you all.

Personally I adore grey. I don't know whether its the fact its a combination of one of my all time favourite fashion trends, monochrome, or if its just the soft tone of the colour in general. In no way is any shade of grey harsh against any skin tone, it truly is a universal colour that seems to look sophisticated upon anybody who wears it.

Grey also compliments pretty much any other colour on the spectrum, therefore is a staple in many peoples wardrobes as its perfect on the "I've over slept and didn't plan my outfit out the night before" mornings, as theres a 99% chance guarantee that any other colour in your wardrobe is going to be complimented by grey.

Anybody who knows me and my sense of style knows that something I love within an outfit is texture. Grey is never a solid colour, there is always a certain grain and texture within something grey making each tone completely individual.

Basil also wanted to get involved and steal the spotlight..

So there you go! Who else has a love for grey?
